The National Awareness Campaign has Launched!


We are thrilled to announce the official launch of the School Social Work Association of America's (SSWAA) National Awareness Campaign, unveiled at the recent American Association of School Administrators (AASA) Conference in New Orleans. Our Executive Director and Associate Executive Director proudly represented SSWAA, highlighting the indispensable role of School Social Workers in fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive educational environments.

About the National Awareness Campaign

The National Awareness Campaign aims to elevate understanding and appreciation for the School Social Work profession while addressing critical workforce challenges. School Social Workers are pivotal in enhancing students' social and emotional growth, leading to improved academic outcomes. This campaign seeks to spotlight our contributions and advocate for the resources and support necessary to continue our vital work.


Highlights from the AASA Conference

At the AASA Conference, SSWAA leadership engaged with school administrators nationwide, emphasizing the unique expertise School Social Workers bring to educational settings. These interactions underscored the growing recognition of our profession's value in addressing students' diverse needs and promoting holistic development.

We invite all School Social Workers to become Ambassadors for our profession. As an Ambassador, you will:

  • Advocate Locally: Utilize resources from the National Awareness Campaign to promote the significance of School Social Work in your community.

  • Collaborate: Partner with educators, administrators, and policymakers to address workforce challenges and enhance support for our roles.

  • Educate: Raise awareness about the critical impact of School Social Workers on student well-being and academic success.

Rebecca K. Oliver is the Executive Director of the School Social Work Association of America. Mrs. Oliver has been the SSWAA Executive Director for 10 years, with over 25 years in the profession of School Social Work. Over the years, Rebecca has received invaluable feedback from members and state leaders about the challenges facing the profession. In response, she has been at the forefront of developing and driving the National Awareness Campaign, working alongside the SSWAA staff and Board of Directors to ensure it meets the needs of our members across the nation. SSWAA's National Awareness Campaign was developed to increase an understanding and raise appreciation for the profession of School Social Work while addressing key workforce challenges. School Social Work professionals are critical in fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive school environments and improving student outcomes. SSWAA is aware of workforce issues impacting the profession and aims to address key issues in the Unite to Ignite campaign.
